Yahoo Mail
OAuth sign-in for Yahoo is on our roadmap but not available today. Connect Yahoo (and AOL, which is run on the same platform) via IMAP + SMTP using an app-specific password.
Before you start
Yahoo requires 2-step verification on your account before it will issue an app password. Turn it on at login.yahoo.com/account/security first.
Create an app password
- Sign in at login.yahoo.com/account/security/app-passwords.
- Click Generate app password.
- Pick a name like “SuperMail” and click Generate.
- Copy the 16-character password. Yahoo only shows it once - paste it straight into SuperMail.
Connect in SuperMail
- Settings → Accounts → Add account → Yahoo.
- Enter your full email address and the app password.
- Server settings are pre-filled:
- IMAP:
imap.mail.yahoo.com:993(TLS) - SMTP:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465(TLS) or:587(STARTTLS) - Username: full email address
- IMAP:
- Click Connect.
Sync model
Yahoo’s IMAP endpoint supports IDLE, so we get near-real-time push. New mail typically appears in SuperMail within a few seconds. If IDLE stalls (Yahoo occasionally drops idle connections), we fall back to polling. Pull-to-refresh on mobile, or the Refresh action on desktop, always forces an immediate sync.
Folders and flags
Yahoo folders map directly to SuperMail folders. Yahoo’s “starred” flag maps to SuperMail’s star. Yahoo doesn’t expose custom labels over IMAP, so SuperMail tags applied to Yahoo threads live only on the SuperMail side.
AOL Mail
AOL runs on the Yahoo backend. Pick “Yahoo” in Add account, enter your @aol.com address,
and use an AOL-generated app password from
login.aol.com/account/security. The rest works the
same.
Gotchas
- App passwords are single-use per app. Don’t paste the same one into multiple clients - generate a new one for each.
- Yahoo aliases aren’t automatically discovered. Add each alias as a send profile in Settings → Accounts → Yahoo → Send profiles.
- Password rotation - if you regenerate the app password on Yahoo’s side, update it in SuperMail under Settings → Accounts → [account] → Edit credentials or the account will stop syncing.
Roadmap
- Native Yahoo OAuth with richer scope control - planned.
